Ask your local TDs to support retail workers!

Step One Select your constituency

Website News MWP-1

There are three easy steps to take action:

  1. Select the constituency where you live from the map on this page;
  2. Type your name to the letter which is already drafted;
  3. Click send once you type your name.

Why?

Retail is no longer a viable career. Over the last 30 years we’ve seen retail employment go from being largely full-time with many workers staying with the same employer for their whole working lives to one that is now overwhelmingly part-time and short-term.

Recent findings on retail workers’ earnings from the Central Statistics Office show that earnings are around half of the average industrial wage per week and less than the Living Wage. The problem is not low pay, it’s because retail workers can't get the hours their contracts should reflect.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

The Make Work Pay campaign is calling for changes to be made to employment laws so that employers are legally obliged to offer more contracted working hours to part-time workers.

Get involved by contacting your local TDs today, seeking their support. The more emails we send, the harder it is for them to ignore.
